About me
Matty B Thompson

When I was nine years old I opened a moss museum—a trestle table with different mosses on it—outside my family home. I had one visitor and they didn't buy anything from the gift shop. Massive fail.

Thirteen years later I landed a job with one of the UK's leading wildlife cameramen. Between changing lenses and loading film for him, I shot my own sequences. House mice having sex in a cavity wall was one of the highlights.

An eight year stint at the BBC's Natural History Unit followed. There was no rodent rumpy-pumpy there, just animal A-listers galore and few erupting volcanoes to boot. Happy days!

Just when I thought things couldn't get any better the boss of a big Bristol indie offered me a job. He wanted me to PD two episodes of a major series about Africa for Nat Geo/PBS. A chance to film human stories and wildlife was too good to ignore. I went freelance and lots of globetrotting followed.

I still get to experience new exotic locations—albeit vicariously—by overseeing the edits of some very exciting wildlife and adventure films for the world's most respected channels and streamers.

I keep my passport handy just in case, and currently hold an i-visa for the USA.
